Go Green by Going Black

A black screen or background saves more electrical energy by turning the pixels (tiny digital squares that cover a big area in different colors to produce an image) black wich means they are off. Therefore a white screen uses up the most energy.

Memoir Monday-

Jan 19 2009

When I’m at home I’m usually hooked up to the TV or surfing the web on the computer and I do nothing else, oblivious of my surroundings. My parents want me to get off, “please get of, you’ve been on it way to long,” or to go outside, “no more computer until you’ve gone outside for one hour,” I still don’t get off, “five more minutes,” I beg, but when I go to Coronado it’s a whole different story.

It’s a cool sunny day in my cousins’ beach house in Coronado and my brother Fabian is on the
Gameboy as always (he is worse than me when getting off). I grab a football and walk out the back door, avoiding the dog from snatching the ball away from me. Once Im out in the backyard, aka the soccer field, I toss the ball up in the air as high as I can and catch it. Later, after tossing it a couple of times Roberto walks by with the hose watering some plants and after I see himI say out loud, “Roberto, go long.” He drops the hose and starts walking slowly towards me puzzled, trying to grasp what I just said. Quickly I assume a QB stance and he darts to one side. I aim and hurl the ball a few feet ahead off him and he reaches out his arms to catch it.

After a few minutes the whole family is playing a game of football except for Fabian who can’t stop pressing buttons. Its getting dark and the hose is on the ground, wasting water. Guess who decides to show up wanting to play at the end of the game.

Its either the lack of electronic devises the house has that keeps me away from the screen or the big open field outside, but I think its just about being close to my family.
